building a community to reach a community

Celebrating Operation Cooperation!

As we wrap up Operation Cooperation, it feels like the perfect time to celebrate how God has worked in our ministry at Mountain View over the past year. Just a few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to start off the summer with an action-packed week of Camp in the City. The halls of GFC were filled with cheers and laughter as the camp counselors from Pine Cove shared the love of Jesus with 190 GFC and Mountain View children! As I have reflected over that week, it has been difficult to put into words what I experienced, but I feel what we are doing to reach this community can be summed up with several stories from Camp in the City week:

There was the Mountain View child who felt nervous on Monday, the first day of camp, but by Tuesday was running into church ready to give out a hug or high five because he felt loved in these walls.

There is another child who received a Bible for the first time in his life and was seen reading through the pages on his own after lunch that day.

There is the little girl, who when asked what her favorite part of the day was, didn’t say the water slide but instead said “Bible study” was her favorite.

Probably my favorite moment of the week came on Thursday night when the GFC staff was able hear a time of sharing from the camp counselors. From what they shared, it was evident that not only had they made an impact on the kids during their time here, but GFC’s outreach into the Mountain View community had affected each one of them in a powerful way.

One of the last counselors to speak shared a story that really hit close to home… He himself went to Mountain View as a child. He grew up dealing with the some of the same issues the students there are facing today. For him, one of his life changing moments came during a week at a local summer camp when he was a child. Now he is using his life to help other children turn to Jesus. How incredible that God gave us a small glimpse of what can happen if we are faithful to loving this community for His glory!

Camp in the City is just one small part of our Mountain View ministry but how exciting that God can use one week to work in the lives of these children. This week would not have been possible without the generosity of our church body. As Tom announced a few Sundays ago, we are happy to say that we have reached our Operation Cooperation goal to support our next ministry year! Not only was our goal met, but we had a great response from people in our body who are ready to serve during the next school year at Mountain View.

Thank you for your support in building and reaching this community!
