Desiring His Way Over Mine
When I think about my story and all that the Lord has done in my life, I am in awe. I was born and raised outside of Nashville, and my “adopted” grandmother as we called her – a close family friend – had a big impact on my walk with the Lord. She helped watch me when I was young and was very intentional about telling me about Jesus. Because I had great people pouring into me, I made the decision to follow Him in middle school. Although I made that decision at a young age, it wasn’t until college that I began to truly start walking with the Lord and started desiring a life that would honor Him.
I moved to East Tennessee to attend college at ETSU in the fall of 2010 and slowly started attending a campus ministry called The Well. I joined The Well’s Ministry Team my second year at ETSU and began to serve my peers on Wednesday nights before and after The Well’s services at GFC. Through this ministry, my faith started to grow and I began to build relationships with other believers. These relationships were so important and had a huge impact on my faith.
Not long after I started attending The Well, I became plugged in at GFC as well. I started by serving within the Preschool Ministry on Wednesday nights while parents were in small groups. I served in that area for three years until I began serving with Student Ministry as a small group leader in 2013. I am still serving there today and it has been so neat to watch what the Lord has done (and is doing!) in all of the students’ lives and see how He has also blessed me through serving with the students.
Last year, I began the journey that led to the job I currently hold at GFC. It all started with a conversation with Student Ministry and asking if they would be interested in having an intern. I wanted to see how “behind the scenes” worked and I already loved serving as a small group leader. That opportunity grew and stretched me in new ways and I found that I loved all of the detail-oriented, administrative tasks that came along with it. This opportunity then led to a part-time, temporary position as an assistant to GFC’s Adult Ministries which then became a full-time position this past June.
Back when I served with The Well, I remember thinking that it would be so neat to serve the Lord by working in a church one day. I had no idea what that looked like, nor how I would accomplish that. Someone recently reminded me that the Lord is always preparing you for your next step and works all of the pieces of your life for His glory when we choose to walk with Him. I definitely see that when I look at all He has done for me in my life and where He has placed me now. I am so blessed to be serving here at GFC and look forward to continuing my walk with Him.
