Sharing in God's work in Peru
Daniel Palacios, the pastor of our Peruvian partner church, was overjoyed by the recent gift of a $10,000 computer lab from an anonymous GFC donor. Beyond that, he was even more excited at what the future holds for our partnership. Just over one year ago Pastor Daniel retired from his long-standing factory job that had provided for the financial needs of he and his wife and their five daughters for nearly 20 years.
He did this so he could focus on the spiritual needs of those families attending his church and the community in which he lives and serves. You see, Daniel was the full time pastor of his church the whole time he was working full time at his factory job! Now, Daniel will tell you that being able to retire from that factory job was a blessing. He will also tell you that being able to focus exclusively on the needs of the church and the student center is the desire of his heart. But, when it comes to describing GFC’s involvement with his church over the past two years, Daniel is at a loss for words.
Our partnership with Pastor Daniel and Iglesia Evangelica Bautista and the church’s Compassion Child Center is bringing profound impact in both directions. He has adopted and begun small groups, a worship music ministry, sermon outlines, and a leadership development program. We have learned lessons that have translated into our We-Love-Mountain View efforts, taken away ideas for Rise Up, and experienced fresh insights for living with less in our material society.
In October 2012, when an anonymous GFC donor financed the building of a computer lab with 20 brand new computers, it provided a resource that will equip the kids with computer skills and knowledge few children in poverty receive. In addition, the November GFC team brought 8 additional laptop computers that will be used by the teachers in their classrooms. Further, the team provided study bibles and bible study resources for their church leaders. In response to these gifts, we recently received this communication from Pastor Daniel:
“I greet you in the blessed name of Lord Jesus. We are enjoying the blessings provided by the group such as the Bibles, Bible dictionary, etc. I would also like to thank pastor Tom Oyler and his team and church with all my heart. Thank you for the blessings we received: computers, laptops, photocopy machine, we are so thankful and we pray this 2013 our ALMIGHTY GOD bless you richly in every aspect of your life.”
I echo Pastor Daniel’s prayer for us in 2013. I pray additionally that our Almighty God continue to open our hearts for the least and the lost both here and in Peru.
