According to a website I ran across this afternoon, we are in the closing days of National Marriage Week. This year it ran from February 7th to the 14th, aptly ending on Valentine’s Day. I didn’t know there was a dedicated week to honoring, supporting, and strengthening marriages, but I am glad there is, and that it even gains national media attention. On this website, you can watch a short two minute video about one couple’s story of what can happen when you put God first and you prioritize your marriage relationship. This video aired on ABC’s Nightly News.
At GFC, it is our desire to come alongside you in whatever stage of marriage you are in, whether you are contemplating getting married, all the way to empty-nesters looking to pass on your legacy to others. We want to help you honor that big promise you made to each other when you said, “I do,” and help you know God’s design for your marriage. We want you to find renewed levels of intimacy through understanding the interplay between loving and respecting each other, and all the while prioritize having fun in this journey together.
We have two upcoming events that we don’t want you to miss out on. One is a Married People Date Night, which is Friday, February 22 at the church, 7:00-8:30 pm. Our topic for the night is 'Study Your Spouse'. It is easy for married people to start living like roommates, focused on everything else but each other. They stop “knowing” each other. The problem is you can’t love who you don’t know. At this Date Night experience, couples will enjoy a great night of getting to know each other in a whole new way! There will be live entertainment featuring the band “Spirit of Soul,” teaching, dessert, and a whole lot of fun! The cost is $10 per couple, which includes childcare upon reservation. You can register here online, or stop by the registration table on Sunday morning.
In addition to the Date Night, we also have an upcoming 6-week group study that you may want to be a part of. The study is called Marriage: Built to Last. In this DVD study Pastor Chip Ingram provides Biblical and practical teaching to give us the tools to live intentionally and love biblically. We will also see several real-life stories of couples who share about their honest questions and struggles as they seek to build a marriage that will last a lifetime. Such couples include Kurt & Brenda Warner and Dave & Sharon Ramsey. This group study will begin Wednesday, February 27th at the church, 6:30-8:00 pm, childcare is available upon registration. You can register here online.
Let’s practice our promise and prioritize our marriages the way God intends us to.
