GFC has recently hired two new staff members, Katelyn Jorjorian and Jacob Bouvier. Katelyn is serving as our Adult Ministry Assistant, and Jacob is serving as our new Middle School Director. We've asked them both to introduce themselves so we can get to know them a little better!
Katelyn Jorjorian, Adult Ministry Assistant
I moved to Johnson City, TN, in August of 2010 to begin my undergraduate degree at ETSU. That fall I became involved in a campus ministry called The Well which met weekly at GFC. Each week before the Well’s service would start, I would help out with childcare at Grace for families involved in small groups. There is no doubt in my mind that getting connected as a childcare worker in the fall of 2010 is the reason that I am so involved and love GFC so much.
I grew up in Middle Tennessee and began a relationship with the Lord in Middle School. Even though I knew Jesus as my savior then, I didn’t truly start walking with Him until my freshman year of college. During my time at ETSU, the Lord began to change my desires for my future. I always thought that I wanted to continue my education and work in the business world, but slowly my dreams started shifting toward ministry. I wasn’t sure what that would look like, but I knew I didn’t want to pursue something if it wasn’t going to give God glory.
This past August, I was given the opportunity to intern part-time with the Student Ministry. It was so neat to be a part of the team and learn so much about this ministry since I had been volunteering with the Student Ministry since the fall of 2013 as a small group leader. Some weeks being a small group leader was challenging, but ultimately it was so rewarding to watch the girls grow in their relationship with Jesus. It was so cool how God gave me the opportunity to work in an area that I already loved.
In February, I was given the opportunity to start as a part-time, temporary assistant for the Adult Ministry team. This position was perfect since I had fallen in love with all of the administrative aspects of my internship—planning and organizing events, helping with small groups, buying supplies, etc. During this last year, it has been so neat to see how the Lord orchestrated all of my interests to align with my job. I am so glad I get to work and be a part of the amazing team here at GFC, and I am looking forward to serving alongside of them as the Adult Ministry Assistant.
Jacob Bouvier, Middle School Director
If we’ve had the pleasure of speaking to one another, you’ll notice I’m missing two key features of a native southerner: that all-too-familiar southern accent and the term “y’all” in my vocabulary. However, while I hail from the humid flatlands of St. Petersburg, Florida, I am ecstatic to join you in the beautiful foothills of the East Tennessee mountains. That being said, I’ll still proudly perform the Gator Chomp in the presence of any and all Volunteer fans.
I grew up in the wonderful home of two parents who dearly loved the Lord. Under their care, I placed my faith in Christ for the forgiveness of my sins at the age of six while sitting on my parents’ bed after a live “Bibleman” event. It was then that I acknowledged my own helplessness and my desperate need for a Savior. Since that day, I have sought to understand the truths of the gospel that I believed that evening as a young boy. So while I have called myself a Christian since the age of six, it has been a painful but wondrous process to grow more and more into Christlikeness, as I have come to better know and love the Lord Jesus who gave Himself and continually gives Himself for me.
Just prior to my senior year of high school, I felt the Lord undoubtedly calling me into a life of full-time service to Him. In order to best prepare for this, I attended Moody Bible Institute in downtown Chicago, where I learned invaluable skills when it comes to studying and communicating the word of God. But even more importantly, I really and truly fell in love with Christ Jesus in a way that I never had before. As my time at Moody was approaching an end, I recognized that I had developed a passion for middle and high school students to come to experience the fulfillment and satisfaction that comes only through a personal relationship with the resurrected Christ. So that’s how I ended up here!
But that’s not all Moody left me with. It was on a study-abroad trip to Israel through Moody that I met my beautiful fiancé, Sage. Her boundless love for me teaches me more about the gospel on a daily basis than any words ever could. In our free time, we like to play Ultimate Frisbee, watch sitcoms and animated movies, hike, hammock, and find waterfalls to soak ourselves in. We will be married on October 2nd and love making friends, so give us a shout!
We are absolutely thrilled to join you on this journey as we venture further up and further in to the riches of God’s grace together. To God alone be the glory!
