Reaching out in Alaska
“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”, John Maxwell. That statement set the tone for our week of serving the children and families of Government Hill Park in Anchorage, Alaska.
As the nail polish sparkles on my fingernails, I am struck by the relationships that were formed and strengthened over the last week. Not only does Alaska have some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, but it is also full of wonderful people at Grace Works, Calvary Baptist Church and Government Hill Park where our team served.
Our team of 10 very different individuals from Grace Fellowship Church began last week with hearts seeking to do good works, and ended the week with new friendships that will last forever! Not only did we build relationships with each other but we also grew closer to Christ this week by seeing Him work in the hearts and lives of the kids at our park.
Our team members are blessed with God’s love in our lives and it was important to pass along His love to these wonderful kids. We were blessed beyond words just to have the opportunity to have fun and show love to kids who might not regularly hear how much God loves them. My fingernails were painted by a sweet girl whose mom I never saw over our 5 days and two evenings at the park. She was busy with her younger child and my manicurist appreciated some one on one time with me.
Hearts were softened, hugs were given, pinky promises were made, and tears were formed when it was time to leave. I can only hope that our team made as much of an impact on those kids hearts as they did on mine.
