In the spring of 2014, I was still acclimating to my new role as a stay at home mom. I was enrolled in a music class with my oldest son, where I was searching for not only friends for my little one, but for myself, too. In that class, I met two women who invited me to Mom-to-Mom Outreach, a ministry at GFC for moms of children birth through 5 years old (M2O for short). It would not be long before I attended my first meeting and realized I wasn’t only searching for friends but was also about to take HUGE steps in my faith and walk with God.
When I began coming to M2O, my family was not attending church at all. I anxiously showed up for the first meeting only knowing a few ladies and was placed at a table where Mary Jones was the Mentor Mom. Our table group scheduled a play date at one of the mom's homes. We all gathered together with our children, and it gave us time to talk outside of our regular monthly meeting. After a conversation with Mary, she asked if I would be interested in talking further as she could tell I was seeking a personal relationship with God.
Mary and I both feel that we connected from the start and that God brought us together for a reason. Despite not growing up in a Christian home, I had always believed I was a Christian. However, I was missing a significant piece. Mary was the first person to share the gospel with me and help me understand my need for a Savior and that I needed to put my faith and trust in Him. I was struggling with understanding that I could truly be forgiven for my past. I didn't feel worthy of His love and often told myself that this was the reason I could not have a deeper relationship with Him. Mary openly shared her past with me, and she assured me all had been forgiven - that God's grace covers all. She helped me understand the magnitude of God's love for me by sending His Son to die for my sins, and that I needed to make a decision to put my faith and trust in His Son.
In September of 2014, Mary held my hand as I accepted Christ as my Savior. A year later, I asked her if she'd baptize me. Mary stepped out of her comfort zone and did what God called her to do, what this ministry is really all about - sharing God’s word and reaching mothers when they are tired, exhausted, and weak from caring for our families. Mentor moms pour the love of our Savior into you, strengthen you, and show you that you are loved.
Though I have gained so much from M2O, I can see how much it has benefited my children, as well, from the wonderful staff and volunteers that care for our children during meetings to witnessing friendships blossom with other children during our monthly play dates and table get-togethers.
The speakers at the monthly meetings have also encouraged me to grow in my walk. There is a different topic each month where tools are provided on how to take the truths we’re learning into our homes and share them with our husbands and children. I am so thankful for this ministry and recommend it to ALL mothers of preschoolers. If you are struggling, feeling lonely, overwhelmed, need support, want to grow, need encouragement - please consider joining M2O.
My hope is that my story glorifies God and all that He has done in my life, just by my responding to a simple invitation to come to M2O. It has literally changed my life forever, eternally! My family has gained a church home. I have not only gained beautiful friendships but also watched God work as these women’s families are now part of my own. God has, through M2O, continued to put strong, Christian women in my life who walk beside me, encourage me, support me, pray for me, and just plain understand the hardships that this stage of life can bring. I can promise that you’ll come out stronger. I personally have grown so much through this ministry and now serve on the leadership team for M2O and with Grace Kids on Sunday mornings. I can honestly say I have been "changed by Christ and used by Christ,” all because of M2O.
