GFC has recently hired two new staff members for the Student Ministry Team. Carolee Morrison is our new Student Ministry Small Group Coordinator and Josh Gomez is our Student Ministry Worship Director. We've asked them both to introduce themselves and their families so that we can get to know them a little better!
Carolee Morrison, Student Ministry Small Group Coordinator
Our family moved to Northeast Tennessee in 1994 and Grace Fellowship has been our church home for almost 20 years. While I was born and raised in Iowa and am a true Midwesterner at heart, our kids have grown up here in Johnson City and we love living here!
I grew up knowing who Jesus was and that He loved me, but my personal relationship with Him began on New Year’s Eve my senior year in high school. That night I made a deal with God, that if He would accept me just the way I was, I would allow Him to make me whatever He wanted me to be. I really began to grow in my faith when I became involved with Campus Crusade for Christ at Iowa State University. After college I wanted to share all that I had learned with others, so I joined staff with CRU’s High School Ministry (Student Venture).
David and I met on staff with CRU, but when he left staff to join the Navy, we were married and he took me with him! We were married in 1987 and what an adventure it has been! Thanks to the Navy we were able to live all over the country and make a lot of memories and great friends along the way. Everywhere we lived, we always found a church to get involved in and have always valued small groups/community groups as a way to really get to know people and share our spiritual journey with others.
GFC has been no exception! We have made great friends through the small group ministry here and have loved “doing life” with all the people we have spent time with through community groups. All four of our children have grown up in this church and have gone through all the stages of ministry that Grace has to offer. We are so thankful for the excellent teaching, the solid foundation, and the great experiences our kids have had here.
Joining staff with the Student Ministry at Grace as the Small Group Coordinator seems like the perfect fit for me because of the value I see in small groups and the love that I have for teenagers! I am very excited to be a part of this ministry and to continue to allow God to make me whatever He wants me to be!
Josh Gomez, Student Ministry Worship Director
I was born and raised in Charlotte, NC, and was a part of a multi-ethnic, multi-generational church since I was three years old. I started leading worship at 15 years old in a position where I served as a Creative Arts Director. I worked closely with youth worship teams, as well as leading and training adult technical teams and worship teams. I have a passion to see people connect in worship corporately and personally.
My wife Brooke and I were married on August 2nd, 2014, and moved to Johnson City only a month ago! We met at an inner city ministry in Charlotte called One7, which I got involved with through connections with some of Charlotte’s professional soccer players, who started the ministry. I started a worship ministry at One7 and Brooke helped with the girls' small groups. Interestingly enough, One7 has now expanded to Johnson City through Milligan College students who were interns at the One7 in Charlotte.
We are both passionate photographers and have a huge heart for missions, as well. We’ve done weddings, senior portraits, family portraits, as well as commercial photography for dance studios and the like. I have also worked as an intern photographer for Silent Images, helping to create documentary films and share untold stories. Our future vision is to use visual communications (photography and videography) to help raise awareness and support for missionaries and missions movements around the world. So far, we have been to Swaziland, Africa, and Brooke has been to Belarus, using photography and videography to serve missionaries and ministries.
Brooke is a full time student at Milligan College, and I am working at GFC as the Student Worship Director as well as doing photography and videography on the side. We are honored and blessed to be able to call Grace our new home, and have been completely overwhelmed by the love and support that we’ve already gotten in our short time here.
