GFC has recently hired Thomas Cook as the part time College and Young Adult Ministry Coordinator. We've asked him to introduce himself so that we can get to know him a little better!
It is a true privilege and honor to be on staff at GFC. The elders, pastors, staff, and church body are wonderful, and have shown such kindness to me since the day I arrived. God is at work at GFC in many ways, and it is evident in the lives of the people here. The opportunity to serve in the capacity of the College and Young Adult Ministry Coordinator at GFC is very exciting, and a true blessing. I am also excited to bo leading worship for the middle school ministry!
I placed my faith in Jesus Christ for salvation at a young age and have been learning how to walk with Him ever since. I have six brothers and three sisters, and grew up in a wonderful family under the Word of God, in Morristown TN. From 2011 to 2013, I went to Walter State Community College and played baseball, while leading worship for different college and high school ministries. Christ, ministry, athletics, and music were some of the core building blocks of my life, and I hope to apply those areas of experience in service to the college and young adult ministry at GFC.
I transferred to ETSU in the Fall of 2013 and was heavily involved with campus life and college ministry. I graduated ETSU in the Fall of 2015 with a Communication Studies Degree and a Vocal Music Minor. In the summer of 2016, I was called to gather 1,000 different churches together to pray and worship, and through that project, God opened the door for me to start working at GFC. Adoration 2017 is now the name of the 1,000 church gathering, and our mission is to bring 1,000 different churches together to pray and worship at ETSU, and work towards restoring Appalachia from prescription drug abuse. Outside of ministry, I love to play music in my band Stationflyby, write songs, play sports, snowboard, and go on adventures.
My heart is full of gratitude towards God as I continue to trust Him with my life. I have a strong desire to lead college students and young adults in a direction that pleases God, and am excited to be doing it at GFC. Following Christ has been more rewarding than I ever could have imagined. God is good, and I am honored to be serving the one true King! “He (Jesus) is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purifications for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” Hebrews 1:3
