Monday Memo - February 3
“This is what we are about: we plant the seeds that will one day grow. We water seeds already planted, knowing that they hold promise. We lay foundations that will need further development. We provide yeast that produces effects far beyond our capabilities. We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that. This enables us to do something, and do it well. It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way, an opportunity for the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest.” (Emphasis added. Common Prayer Pocket Edition, 2012)
I received this in a blog late last week from Melissa Inman and it has stayed with me as a very helpful “philosophy” of life. Actually, it is good theology too! For those of us who get overwhelmed with responsibilities, want to fix everything, who have little patience because we are very results-oriented, this is a good word! Parent? Student? Planner? Organizer? Leader? Pastor? Spouse? Ambitious career minded college student? THIS IS WHAT WE ARE ABOUT. Read it again. Perhaps write it down on some real paper and ponder it.
I am especially drawn to the last line… an opportunity for the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest. You know what that enables me to do? Rest. Really rest. I don’t know where this memo will find you this Monday, but I hope you give it more than just a once over. I got a feeling it just might hit home! Thanks to Melissa Inman!
See you Sunday!
