Monday Memo - April 21

G.K. Chesterton was standing on a London street corner when he was approached by a newspaper reporter. “Sir, I understand you have recently become a Christian. May I ask you a question?” “Certainly,” replied Chesterton. The reported inquired, “If the risen Christ suddenly appeared at this very moment and stood behind you, what would you do?” Chesterton looked at the reporter in the eye and said, “He is.”

How encouraging to ponder the day AFTER Easter! He is…and always will be. Even today. It is a matter of Black and White! Take it—by faith.

It was a great week together—Discovering “Who is this Jesus?” last Sunday, led each day of Passion week by devotionals from different members of GFC, gathering with 600 others on Good Friday, and then celebrating and affirming the resurrection with 2,200 plus. I have heard of Tennessee Christmas, but yesterday I experienced a Tennessee Easter!

Thanks to nearly 300 volunteers who served in a variety of ways, from helping our kids get the ‘message’ to assisting our guests and others to have a great environment in which to hear and experience the risen Christ. What a joy to serve together! Let’s pray for ongoing fruit.

Speaking of doing something together! Our Operation Cooperation need was $50,000. As of last week, we have received $88,000 in gifts and commitments! We do love Mountain View. Thank you for loving others and God through your giving. Everything that happens at GFC, including the kinds of moments and memories during the Easter seasons, is facilitated by your gifts.

I am looking forward to our new series, I Have a Friend Who… that begins this Sunday. Please offer your suggestions for topics by texting them to (714)694-3201 or by using the hashtag #ihaveafriendwho on Facebook or Twitter. In addition, a new Sunday morning group begins this week called 5 Things God Uses to Grow Your Faith. It meets at 11:00 in the Starting Point room next to the Prayer Room in the East office hallway!

And remember…He is!

Grace and peace,

Tom Oyler
