Peru Team - Day Three
We had another wonderful day in Peru. The only disappointment was that Peru lost to Chile in the American Cup, but besides that, we were very blessed. This morning we gathered at the church for a short devotional from Pastor Daniel before we went to work preparing the church for paint. Some of us installed styrofoam insulation, some sanded walls, some painted, and others cleaned. Many people from the church came to help, so it was a joy to serve alongside many of them.
A few of us also went on home visits today. We got to visit the homes of our sponsor children, and in some cases, the sponsor children of some of you all! What a unique blessing it was to step into their lives for even a short moment. For me personally, visiting the home of my sponsor child made it all very real to me. I was surprised at how attached I was to this boy we've only sponsored for 4 months. It was clear that the letters we write and gifts we send have a real impact. I know for many of us the home visit were a reality check in many ways.
After lunch, we led a VBS where we gave the children the Christmas stars Grace Kids made. The children at the center also made some stars for our Grace Kids! What a beautiful picture that we are all children of God even though thousands of miles separate us. We closed our evening with a men's and women's night. For the women, it was a special time of encouraging them to seek community. We need to bear one another's burdens and meeting together is one way to do that. The men got to speak to and challenge the few men in the church. As in most cultures today, sadly, there is a lack of male presence in the church. We need to pray for God to raise up more godly men in our cultures today.
Our time is passing so quickly, and we are both sad and blessed by that. Please continue to pray for us and for opportunities to share the love of Christ. Tomorrow we will do some home builds and possibly more home visits.
