Peru Team - Day Six

Until Next Time
Yesterday, we spent our last day in Lima, Peru. It was a Child Fun Day where all the sponsors took their children to the zoo! There were so many smiles and so much laughter. We got to see the new White Tiger, eat ice cream, and just enjoy each other's company. What a joy! For lunch we all gathered at Pardo's chicken for a family style meal. Chicken, papas fritas, and chocolate cake sure hit the spot after a couple hours walking around the zoo.

After lunch we took our sponsor children to the park to give them the gifts we got them. Paul's sponsor child Marcos got a Peru jersey, and as he put it on, Paul surprised him by putting on a matching shirt! Our sponsor child got a Barcelona jersey, and once he put it on, it was Peru vs. Barcelona as he and Marcos played soccer together. Elsewhere in the park, girls were cooing over baby dolls and blowing bubbles. Boys were getting new shirts and jackets. There were smiles everywhere. It was, of course, extremely difficult to say goodbye, but we closed by praying with the family.

Mark, our Compassion team leader, challenged us to share a prayer request with our sponsor child because the prayers of a child are strong. For us, it was a lesson on being vulnerable and connecting and brothers and sisters in Christ. It was such a joy for all of us to have this unique experience of meeting and spending the day with our sponsor children. I can tell you that they left with so much joy in their hearts. Do not underestimate the impact you can have on a child's life.

After a long flight through the night, the team is in Atlanta awaiting our short flight home. We can't wait to return and share so many beautiful stories with all of you.
