Thanksgiving is always a wonderful time to reflect on the many things that we are thankful for. It is great to take the time to express gratitude for family and friends and to offer thanksgiving to God for all the things He has done in our lives.
Grace Student Ministry is thankful not just during the holiday season but all year round, for our amazing volunteers who go above and beyond the call of duty on behalf of our teens. There are over thirty adults who are involved with Grace Students this year and we are so grateful for them because this ministry would not happen without them!
Before the ministry year even started many of these volunteers met weekly over the summer months to prepare their own hearts by doing a Bible study together, to make sure they were in a good place to lead. Throughout the school year these volunteers are committed to spending at least one night a week with their small group at Midweek or at Sunday Night and many of them meet students even more often than that for special events.
When our Small Group Leaders said “YES” to Grace Students, we are not sure they knew exactly what they were agreeing to! They have said “YES” to late nights, trash patrol, long bus rides, loud music at conferences, going to see plays and sporting events, sleeping on bunk beds at retreats, getting pies in the face and being turned into human ice cream sundaes, lots of pizza, intense conversations about the topic of the day, wiping tears, offering advice and counsel, being a part of group texts, being in silly pictures (they hope never get posted) and studying Scripture so they’re prepared to answer questions, long talks with God about their kids and making incredible memories with and for our students!
These volunteers come in all shapes and sizes, we have leaders who are college students and others who raised their own kids and live in empty nests! The variety and quality of the people involved with Grace Students is amazing and beautiful. For many, this is their community at GFC, not just the time they spend with students but the time they spend with other leaders.
When we think of the small group leaders who are involved in Grace Students we can honestly say, “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:3-6
So, this Thanksgiving the Grace Student Ministry Staff are giving thanks for our amazing volunteers…but not just on Thanksgiving! We are thankful for them EVERY DAY!
