Thank you for being the church!

Dear GFC Community,

As Christians, our trust is in God (Prov. 3:5), not an illness-free climate. And yet, God desires that we do what we can to make wise decisions – just like Nehemiah, who prayed to God and simultaneously posted a guard to protect the city (Nehemiah 4:9). We believe this is the wisest choice we can make with the information we have.

If someone asks why we chose to respond this way, here’s what I would say: we are seeking to love our community by protecting our community from potential risk, especially those who are vulnerable. We plan to stay engaged with you as we continue to seek God and explore new opportunities to reach our community together during this unique time.

Sincerely,

Matt Murphy
Lead Pastor

It’s hard to understand what’s happening in our world without understanding the bigger story in which we find ourselves. In the beginning, God created the world and everything in it. And all that God made was good. God created human beings to live in relationship with Him and each other, bearing His image and ruling together with Him on the earth.

Humans chose to act in mistrust and disobedience and sinned against God. This act introduced brokenness and death into the world. This brokenness was pervasive, impacting the created order (resulting in things like earthquakes and disease) as well as relationships (resulting in things like manipulation, loneliness, abuse and contempt). This also resulted in distance from God (resulting in things like guilt and shame). The worst part about this brokenness is that it was unable to remedied. Nothing humans did could ever make things right.

And then God took on flesh and stepped into human history in the form of Jesus Christ. He came to seek and to save that which was lost. The decisive act of Jesus’ life was when He died on the cross for our sins and then rose from the dead. In so doing, He paid the penalty of our sin and conquered death, enabling us to be forgiven and reconciled to God forever. We experience this by trusting in Jesus.

While we can experience new life through faith in Christ, we still live in a broken world, where realities like disease and death abound. We anticipate the day when Jesus will return and make all things new. While we wait, we join God in what He’s doing – building a community to reach a community, through helping broken and vulnerable people find life in Him.
