GFC Global Outreach
BEE World Kenya Trip
This past August, our team had the joy and privilege of facilitating Romans 1-8 with a group of Kenyan ministers. Let me tell you – this ministry and these people are special. There is something so convicting about the way our Kenyan brothers and sisters love the Scriptures and cling to Jesus. Their worship is simple – no lights, slides, fog machines, or auditorium seating, just voices. And while we look at their living conditions and instinctively take pity, you can’t help but get the feeling that somehow, though it looks like they don’t have much, in actuality, they have everything. I’m grateful for the generosity of GFC, which makes it possible for these trips to happen multiple times a year, and trust me, the Kenyans are too! They thanked me at least a dozen times for GFC’s investment in them.

I was so impressed by how healthy the culture felt in this group. They challenged each other during the table work. They poked fun at each other’s mistakes. They encouraged each other. They deferred to one another if one table-mate had a better answer or more expertise. They celebrated one another’s successes. It was fun to watch them worship, facilitate, work, and learn together all week. It’s a great group!

One of the moments that stood out to me in Kenya was when a student asked if he could meet with me after learning I had done counseling with pastors. I was honored by the trust he showed in opening up about some struggles he was facing and decisions he had been wrestling with. We spent time together talking through those challenges, and it was a very meaningful conversation. I could see the relief he felt in simply having someone listen and encourage him. I’ve had thousands of counseling sessions in my career, but this one is one I know I’ll carry with me for a long time, and I was glad to see how my unique background could help support the work God is doing through these pastors in Kenya.

Thanks for reading. I hope you are able to catch a glimpse of the camaraderie, trust, and friendship that is being built with these dear people, even though they are over 8,000 miles away. That is a testament to the unifying power of Jesus!
Grateful,
Jacob Bouvier
