“It’s an unwed woman who carries God. It’s the pagans from the East who recognize God. It’s the workers in the field who hear from God. It’s the marginalized neighborhood who welcomes God. It’s God who chooses the lowly and the broken to rise. Christmas is here. Let hope in.” Carlos Rodriguez
Christmas, for most of us, is synonymous with a season characterized by family time, giving and receiving gifts, a specific genre of songs and movies, and a general feeling of warmth and cheer. The origin story, though, of Christmas is much less about me in my living room around a tree and more about the surprising, boundary-breaking grace of God meeting people in the midst of brokenness.
Still today, if we’re listening, the truth of the incarnation of Jesus meets us not in the high and happy but the low and lonely places of our lives and brings hope!
I hope you’ll join us at one of our four family-friendly Christmas Eve services as we remember and celebrate this reality together. We are gathering at 9:15am, 11am, 3pm, and 5pm. For more details, click here. Consider coming to one of the earlier times to make room for those who might try GFC for the first time on Christmas Eve.
Also consider who you can invite to come with you. Statistically, most people are willing to attend church if invited. Is there someone in your “orbit” who can join you this Christmas Eve and hear about the hope and peace we have in Jesus? One easy way to do this is to pass on the link gfcnow.com/christmas and say you’d love for them to come!
Matt
P.S. For those GFCers who have asked, I’m recovering well from my surgery! Thank you so much for your prayers, and I look forward to being with you all again soon.
