The Pulse: Giraffes on Ice

GFC Community,

In the book, Parenting with Heart, Stephen James and Chip Dodd compare the experience of parenting to being a giraffe on ice (what an image!). I find that idea so helpful because I often feel clumsy and out of control as a parent. Regularly, I have the thought, “no one told me how to handle this situation.” I don’t know about you, but I didn’t receive an instruction manual with each kid detailing how to be firm while gentle while also connecting to their heart emotionally. And if there were one, I’d mess it up anyway!

One of the great graces God gives to parents (and anyone who works with kids) is wise resources to provide insight and support as we stumble along in the journey of loving and leading our children. This Sunday, David Thomas, from Raising Boys and Girls, will be here for a 2-day parenting conference speaking on what kids teach adults, how to nurture resilience in our kids, and how to raise emotionally-strong kids. This event, hosted by GFC in partnership with Providence Academy, is a great opportunity to learn from a trusted, A+ parenting resource. Click here to learn more and sign up.

Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, working with kids, or serving kids, you won’t want to miss this.

Thankful that we have a Heavenly Father who perfectly loves His children in spite of our many imperfections. Take a moment this week to read Psalm 103:11-18 and consider what it says about God’s posture and attitude towards YOU…

And have a great week!
