The Pulse: Good News for the Broken

Dear GFC Community,

Yesterday, we launched Volume Two in our teaching series on the book of Luke, “Good News for the Broken.” Jesus preaches his inaugural sermon in Nazareth, and the audience approval rating goes from great to bad to worse, and eventually, they try to kill Jesus!

What was it that set them off? Jesus’ mission.

He came to proclaim good news and bring freedom to the wrong kinds of people (from their perspective), people who were viewed as being FAR from God… the least and the lost.

I wrote down some of my reflections on this text in the form of a poem. It doesn’t rhyme every other sentence (roses are red, violets are blue… you get the point), but it does use imaginative and poetic language to try and paint a picture of the surprising and even subversive grace of Jesus. Several folks have asked for the poem, so here it is if you would like to read it.

Praise God that Jesus came for broken and vulnerable people… people like us!
