Gotta Have My Wheaties!

“Gotta have my Wheaties!” The famous tagline of the cereal commercial has stayed with me ever since. More than the line itself, it was who said it that mattered. As a kid growing up in the era of Michael Jordan, he pretty much walked on water to me (which is why I have been loving the recent documentary on his last season with the Bulls in this ‘no live sports desert’). So, as a kid, if MJ had to have his Wheaties, then I had to have them too – though honestly, they never tasted very good to me.

When you read the Psalms, David has a craving for something too, though it isn’t Wheaties. He thinks about it day and night (Psalm 1:2), loves it (119:97), longs for more of it (119:20), and lives to know and understand it (19:11). What is “it”? God’s Word.

During the next 50 days, we want to journey through the Psalms together as a church. Click HERE to see our Bible Reading Plan that starts this week!

The Psalms, more than any other book in the Bible, express what our hearts feel when life is not working the way that we want it to. And during this current season of disorientation, we want to, like David, ground our hearts and lives in the truth of God’s unchanging Word.

I hope you’ll join me on this journey!
