GFC Community,

This past Friday night, GFC hosted our 9th annual Joy Prom! More than 700 guests and family members, along with 300+ volunteers, came together for an epic night filled with red carpets, food, dancing, and more…

Even Spiderman made an appearance!

Thank you to the many volunteers and staff members who played a vital role in helping welcome and celebrate men and women who are made in the image of God and valuable to Him. For many of our guests, we know this is one of the highlights of their year…

This was the first time in four and a half years that we’ve been able to have this event, and I found myself feeling a little sentimental.  Part of that was nostalgia, but part of it was the feeling that Joy Prom is so aligned with the kind of church we are and desire to be.

We want to be a community that truly Demonstrates Love (one of our values) to others in response to the love that God has demonstrated to us. Events like Joy Prom give us a tangible opportunity to practice doing that. And those who participate will tell you, Jesus was right when He said, “It’s more blessed to give than to receive.

Let’s keep seeking to find ways in our everyday lives to demonstrate love to others. After all, Jesus said that would be our calling card. Not our knowledge or spiritual disciplines, or even our faith. “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:35

Matt

P.S. I hope you’ll join us this coming weekend as we keep exploring The Way of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount (if you missed yesterday, watch the message here). This coming Sunday’s text is one of the most beautiful and seemingly problematic things Jesus ever said… Can’t wait!
