From Strangers to Friends

About six months ago, my wife Tara, and I moved to the Johnson City area from overseas. Prior to moving here, we discussed finding a church home, and Grace Fellowship Church is where we found home! There were many things that attracted us to GFC, but dynamic worship, engaging and sound Biblical teaching, and various opportunities to serve ultimately made us want to stay.

When Tara and I pulled up to our new group leader’s home that first night, I said , “Be sure to park on the street so if this goes south we aren’t blocked in and can make a quick escape!” We arrived, got out of the car, took a deep breath, opened the door, and took the plunge. My worries were immediately lifted as we were welcomed by big smiles and laughs as everyone introduced themselves. We spent most of that first night talking and getting to know one another. It seemed like the group hit it off from the very beginning, and I remember leaving that night glowing with excitement at the thought of what was to come with the group.

Being part of a small group has truly brought GFC down to size for me. Instead of being lost in the crowd, I walk in and see famil-iar faces. Instead of sitting with strangers, I now sit with friends with whom I share life. Our Tues-day night meeting has quickly become one of the highlights of my week and I look forward to the next one as soon as I walk out the door.
