My Grace Groups Experience

If you’re looking for connection or a way to deepen your sense of community and relationship with your church Grace Groups has a place for you! To give a little sneak peek into what a Connecting Group looks like, Thomas Bier has written this blog inviting us into his group experience.

What do Texas, Michigan, Tennessee, and Georgia all have in common? Our group! These are the home states of the seven families in our Connecting Group. Each of us in the group wanted to connect with other GFCers and decided to commit to a Connecting Group for six weeks. We all had reasons to not come again or to resist sharing, but we committed.

We have shared huge trials and fears with each other, but one in particular focused us. After our third group meeting, a member mentioned they were having surgery so the group decided to bring meals for her family during her recovery. The surgery was extensive, her income dropped, and her children got sick. We all helped where we could with groceries, miscellaneous needs, diapers, and we feel we connected in friendship and encouragement as we sorted out what needs we could meet to help.

Our Connecting Group decided to stay together and become a community group, and decided to meet at our home. We had a great time discussing the “All In” sermons, and our experiences surrounding finances and generosity. Two hours flew by, and I felt like the sermons stimulated some new ideas about God’s way of growing our faith in Him through generosity.

I’ve been in dozens of groups in my life and this is shaping up to be an enjoyable and happy group of people who are helping me carry my burdens and encourage my faith. We are thankful for the risk it takes to try, and for the happy times we’ve had together already. And we feel much more connected to Grace Fellowship!
