Celebrating Summer Outreach

One of my favorite parts of my job is getting to serve the community through outreach events. This summer, our body got the opportunity to serve local schools through Echo and then come together the next two weekends for our Party in the Park events.

On July 24, we spent Saturday morning “echoing” God’s love to ten of our area schools. Volunteers participated in a variety of projects, from landscaping the grounds to assisting teachers with back to school preparations. I was able to serve at my own son’s elementary school and our group took time to pray for the year ahead, the students, and the staff that serve them so well. One volunteer told me that his family has served during Echo for as long as he can remember and it has become such a special way for them to end their summer. Thank you to everyone who took time to make these projects happen!

The following two weekends, we invited our body and our community to “come together” to Party in the Park. We hosted events at Civitan, Willow Springs, Rotary, and Carver parks. Each party had free food, music, and games. The past year or so has been difficult for us all, so we wanted this to be time for people to have fun. The best part was getting to connect with families in the community who don’t attend GFC! I was able to spend some time talking with a Mountain View Elementary parent who brought her children to enjoy the fun at Rotary.

Having these opportunities reminded me how grateful I am to be a part of body that seeks to “build a community to reach a community.”
