Joan Yandles, Hospitality & Office
How long have you been volunteering in this role?
How did you decide to get involved, and why did you choose this volunteer role?
Before moving here, I had served in the same role at my former church. So it was just the natural position for me to volunteer. To me, serving is a part of worship. I am not comfortable speaking in front of a crowd, and I can’t sing or play a musical instrument, but I can smile and genuinely love on people and welcome them to church!
What is your favorite memory from volunteering with GFC?
Just meeting people and seeing all of the beautiful smiles! It makes me so happy when I can make someone smile just by opening the door and saying, “good morning!” I also enjoyed volunteering in the office because I got to meet & chat with several staff members. Grace is feeling more and more like home all the time!
What would you say to someone who wants to get involved in a volunteer role?
Just try it! If you try greeting with me and don’t like it, we will find you another area that is better suited to your interests. We are called to serve, and this is an easy and natural way to be an extension of Jesus’ hands! It is hard to serve others without being blessed as well!
