Welcome to GFC’s Newest Staff Member, Tara Roberson

Recently, Grace Fellowship welcomed Tara Roberson to our staff team as the part-time Worship Arts Ministry Assistant. Let’s learn more about Tara!

Where were you born or where are you from originally?  I was born in North Carolina and we moved to Johnson City when I was four years old.

Tell us about your spouse.  My husband is Brady. We dated for two years and have been married for six years. We met in college, both involved with Cru, a campus movement at UT Chattanooga. Our friend groups started hanging out during my senior year, playing board games together.

Any pets?  Yes, two cats named Arwen (Ari) and Kylo. They look very similar, but personalities are totally different.

Where did you attend high school?  Science Hill High School, graduated 2009

Where did you attend college? University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, BA in Education, Middle Grades, graduated 2013

Do you have a favorite bible verse or scripture passage? Right now, the Lord has been using Habakkuk 3:17-19 a lot in my life. I love that it calls us to choose joy despite circumstances.

How long have you attended GFC?  20 years! We began attending in 2001 when I was ten.

What serving roles have you held at GFC?
Childcare | worship team volunteer | 5th & 6th grade worship leader

What did you want to be when you grew up? I have almost always wanted to be a teacher. There was a short period of time in which I wanted to be a marine biologist because I love dolphins.

What was your first job? Working as a cashier at Ingles. I only lasted two weeks and then started working at a kids arcade called Fun Expedition.

What is your all-time favorite song or band?  Growing up my all-time favorite band was Reliant K. Now, I don’t really have an all-time favorite, but I’m currently really into K-Pop (Korean Pop).

Do you have any hobbies? I have a lot! Music, books, board games, Asian culture, video games, just to name a few.

What is your favorite show to watch when you are taking it easy at home? Gilmore Girls

Do you have a favorite movie? It’s a tie between Pride and Prejudice and She’s the Man.

What is your best or funniest memory of being in Grace Students yourself as a teen/student? Some of my favorite memories happened on student ministry trips like Big Stuff Camp or M-Fuge. Getting to spend uninterrupted time with God and friends was so impactful for me as a teenager.

What are some little known or interesting facts about you?

  • I really enjoy learning how to do random crafty or useful things by watching YouTube videos (like knitting hats or changing out a car headlight).
  • I love making authentic Asian meals and sharing them with my family/friends. Hotpot is one of my favorites!
  • Singing/playing instruments in front of people doesn’t faze me, but I have a really hard time speaking in front of people.

Anything else you’d like to tell us? I am really excited about my role with Worship Arts. Worship through music is something I’m passionate about, and I enjoy getting to use my gifts to praise the Lord and to be a blessing to others. So, in serving as the Worship Arts Assistant, I look forward to being able to support the team well and do my part to make worship on Sunday mornings enjoyable and meaningful for everyone involved. This church has invested so much into me throughout my 20 years of attending; many staff and members have literally watched me grow up and have helped me become the person I am today. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve my church in this way, and to see how God will grow and challenge me.
